Today's highlighted wrestler is Etsuko Mita

November 2009 marked the end of one of the longest modern day Joshi careers, as Etsuko Mita entered the ring for the final time. Mita debuted in 1987, some twenty two years ago. Unlike her longtime Las Cachorras Orientales partner Mima Shimoda, Mita found success a bit earlier in her career, winning the All Japan Women's Tag Team Titles alongside Toshiyo Yamada. LCO would also win the belts in 1990, and held on to them for quite some time. 1993 would be a breakout year for Mita, as she would have a great match against Suzuka Minami, and it was during this match that the world caught a glimpse of Mita's ticket to success: The Death Valley Bomb. Mita invented the move, and I will argue that she perfected it, also innovating new versions of the move as her career marched on. In 1994, LCO would once again reform, as the two began incorporating more vicious attacks into their already formidable style. The two would even find themselves wrestling against the legendary tag team of Jaguar Yokota and Lioness Asuka. However, it was right around this time that Mita's in-ring style(coupled with her never wearing kneepads) began to take a toll, as she found herself fighting various knee problems. However, that didn't stop LCO, as they ran roughshod over the tag team division, eventually winning the JWP Tag Team Titles in an interesting twist at the time. In 1997, LCO reformed once again after Shimoda briefly reformed the Tokyo Sweethearts, and the two wouldn't split again until 2003, when Shimoda officially retired from the ring. Those six years were spent pillaging the tag team division where ever they went. After leaving AJW in 1997, the two found their way to the various Joshi Indy feds that popped up, such as ARSION, NEO Ladies, and GAEA. Around this time, Mita would begin to utilize different variations of her creation, the Death Valley Bomb. A Wrist Clutch version was first, followed by an incredibly brutal Straightjacket version. Along with the original version, these three moves spelt certain doom for any who opposed Mita. After Shimoda's retirement, Mita began wrestling mainly in the mid-card in various tag team matches, as her knees have become quite unstable. In 2008, LCO was once again reformed, as they took on Revolution Amandola, emerging victorious. The wrestling world has said goodbye to one of the greatest tag team wrestlers of the Joshi world. God speed, Mita.

Here is her pen ultimate and final singles match as she takes on a former partner

Here we go: Etsuko Mita vs Makoto

Death Valley Bomb Hold

A classic clip, and one that's been put up a few times over the years. Etsuko Mita hauls Suzuka Minami off the canvas, and hoists her up into the Fireman's Carry. With Mita, there's only one thing that happens next from that position, and it's a brutal Death Valley Bomb. Mita keeps the position, and goes straight into the pinfall.

Today's highlighted wrestler is Mima Shimoda

Time to highlight one half of the ever so popular tag team known as Las Cachorras Orientales, Mima Shimoda. Shimoda debuted in 1987 against her future long time tag team partner, Etsuko Mita. Mima would eventually form a tag team with Manami Toyota known as the Tokyo Sweethearts, but Toyota's early singles success left Shimoda floundering until roughly 1993(which is ironic, as she would have never made it that far under AJW's old rules of mandated retirement). Mima formed the alliance with Mita, and in 1994, the two made headlines early, capturing both the UWA and the JWP Tag Team Titles. It was there that the two started wrestling in a more vicious style that would follow them throughout the rest of their partnership. The two were even faced off against legends Jaguar Yokota and Lioness Asuka. Shimoda would also face off against her former partner Manami Toyota. In 1996, Shimoda reformed the Tokyo Sweethearts with Toyota briefly, at least long enough to defeat Double Inoue for the WWWA World Tag Team Titles. However, in 1997, Mita and Shimoda were paired up once again, and they wouldn't be split up again until Shimoda's retirement(first one, anyway) in 2003. The two honed their tag team skills to near perfection, now utilizing some incredibly brutal and effective tag team moves. The pair captured the WWWA World Tag Team Titles, and left AJW while still the champions for the newly formed NEO Ladies Pro Wrestling. The two would also work for GAEA and ARSION, both as a team and in singles competition. In 2003, Shimoda retired for the first time, wrestling Ai Fujita in her final bout. In 2008, she would return to reform LCO once again, as the two took on Revolution Amandola. Shimoda's style encompasses some creative and brutal Suplexes, as well as two stiff versions of the Axe Kick. Her Tiger Suplex has put many down for the three, and when that doesn't work, the Death Lake Driver will certainly accomplish the mission.

Here she challenges Yoshiko Tamura for the Doubles Title

Here we go: Mima Shimoda vs Yoshiko Tamura

SICK Death Lake Driver

Mariko Yoshida is caught on the top rope, and I probably don't have to say that she's in a bad position, because that's pretty much par for the course in the Joshi universe. Mima Shimoda follows her up, and brings her down in brutal fashion with a SICK Death Lake Driver.

Rising Star Suplex

Mima Shimoda faces off against Ultima Tigrita, and pulls out one of her rarely seen signature moves, the Rising Star Suplex.

Death Lake Driver

Mima Shimoda damn near destroys Tomoko Watanabe with her savage finisher, the Death Lake Driver. Incredibly brutal move, especially back in 1996, when this clip took place.

A new interview with TNA star Austin Aries is now up on Marvel.com. Aries talks about a variety of topics including Slammiversary coming to Boston this year. Aries added, "Bostonians are passionate people. It’s a lot more fun to perform there than it is to navigate their street systems. I’ve gotten lost more than once in Boston, and it’s easy to do. Obviously coming to Boston had a little extra meaning this year, and we can give them a night of entertainment."

WWE has tried to move a copyright lawsuit from the state of Texas to their home state of Connecticut however the judge has laid the smackdown on the company and shot down the request. Composer James D. “Papa” Berg of Irving, Texas, sued WWE in federal court in Dallas last July after he claimed the company was making use of his music without authorization. Berg’s lawsuit says that he composed several entrance songs for WWE Superstars and Divas and WWE registered his work under the company instead of him so he doesn’t get any royalties. WWE tried to move the lawsuit but U.S. District Judge Jane Boyle disagreed, saying in her May 15 order that WWE failed to show good reason why the case would be better tried in Connecticut. The judge added that since WWE is available in Texas and their products are also available for sale in Texas, the state “has a definite interest in insuring that one of its citizens be able to prosecute his claims at home.”
