15 years ago; Dean Malenko WINS the WCW U.S. Heavyweight Championship
Hey guys, it's time to take a look @ a moment from 15 years ago last month:
Dean Malenko WINS the WCW U.S. Heavyweight Title
Dean Malenko has won numerous titles which includes the ECW & WCW World Tag Team Championship w/the late Chris Benoit as well as the ECW Television Heavyweight Title, WCW Cruiserweight Title as well as the WWE Light-Heavyweight Championship, @ WCW SuperBrawl VII in February, Malenko lost the CW Belt to "6-Pac" Sean Waltman, but then the following month @ WCW Uncensored '97, Malenko def. the late Eddie Guerrero in a No Disqualification Match to capture the WCW United Stated Championship for the very 1st time and it was a moment that WCW Fans will never forget
Malenko would hold on to the belt for 12 consecutive weeks and a day
Dean Malenko was also ranked #1 in the PWI Top 500 in 1997
Dean Malenko is one of those athletes that has NEVER held a World Heavyweight Championship
During the time that Malenko captured the U.S. Heavyweight Title, the following men have held the World Titles:
Dan Severn was still the NWA World Heavyweight Champion, Raven was still the ECW World Heavyweight Champion, Hollywood Hulk Hogan was still the WCW World Heavyweight Champion and one week after Malenko won the U.S. Title, The Undertaker def. Sid Vicious in a No Disqualification Match to recapture the WWE Heavyweight Championship for a 2nd time within 5 1/4 years @ Wrestlemania 13 and he also took his Wrestlemania Record to 6-0
and now, 15 years later, Dean Malenko is retired and he is now a Road Agent for the WWE and the U.S. Strap is now in the WWE and in the hands of Santino Marella
