Default Smackdown LIVE "Blast From the Past" Thread (April 10th, 2012)

This week's Smackdown is live and also a "blast from the past", plenty of great stars from the past will be on the show, will they have one more match to show they still got it?

Also will Sheamus be punished for kicking the ref last week?

only one way to find out, watch the show and tell us what you thought

I thoroughly enjoyed this special because of the legends. Mean gene hasn't been in a tag match since he and Hogan teamed up in 1984 against George the Animal Steele & Mr. Fuji. That makes Gene 2-0!!!!!!! Having Howard Finkel ring announce is always a treat, I wish he had ring announced the whole card. The ending with the legends beating up ADR's ring announce was a beautiful moment. I'm surprised WWE would allow Daniel Bryan to engage in a relationship with a 14 year old AJ!

Yes it good to see the legends, but considering its a special "live" edition of 2 hour edition of Smackdown, what was it roughly 20 mins of wrestling, and probably the majority of that was Orton/Henry. What was the point of the six man tag, Natalya was basicaly stood on the apron and did nothing, Drew ran away, and Khali just stood there, could have replaced Khali with a legend and made it watchable.

And omg Jimmy Hart hasn't aged, I would love to have him back full time, Ryback is certainly getting a major push, having legends watch his match, but got to admit that was one heck of a clothesline.
I love watching Piper pit, Piper is a man I truly look up too and have a great deal of respect for and makes me smile everything he's in that ring.

I just wish that this blast from the past was something, like wow, and at times feels like I was getting short changed by the in ring action

I always liked Skip Sheffield, but I gotta admit, the Ryback character fits him better. Guy is a beast! Just hope they don't keep feeding him jobbers for too long, let's see what the guy can do. Maybe a feud with Funkasaurus?

AJ justs needs a cheeseburger or 2 and then all is good.

Show wasn't bad I would've liked to have seen Rikishi in the ring, and Sheamus is starting to bug me with the smiling all the time he needs to be a badass he's irish and big that's enough to make him a badass he should be using this and not try and be a pale 2-3 inches taller John Cena

WWE feels a lot more legitimate and diverse with the addition of the big, burly bears Ryback, Tensai and Brocky joining the grizzly bear and polar bear Mark Henry and Big show. It exposes these girly men CM Punk, Zack Ryder, Dolph Ziggler and John Cena who you can't seriously and whose fanbase are prodominantly sexually bi-curious teens.

Shock, you just listed 2 current gen guys I like, and I am neither a teen or bi-curious. But fair enough. I do find your fetish with big "bears" a little disturbing myself. XD

The big bears implement realism because the small guys have to learn to adapt and sell. Traditionally, wrestling fans prefer a big bear that will destroy his opponent than a new aged 'entertainer'.

Those days are long over people like high spots and technical wrestling why do you think Jeff Hardy was so popular.

Those people are imbeciles who think that ridding wrestling of monsters is a good thing when it's not. Those people are stupid and deserve to be crippler crossfaced. One of Jeff Hardy's best matches was against the Undertaker on Monday Night Raw in 2002. That match showcased Jeff's talents and allowed him to display vulnerability. The fans really wanted Jeff to win because he was seen as the underdog and his high spots made more sense than ever before because if you're going up against a monster, you're going have to sacrifice your body. It's never been as logical when you're using them against someone of the same size. The people who pop for a high spot for the sake of popping are the kind of people who prefer to read picture books. The wrestling fan whether hardcore or casual will always fall back to traditionalism of size/brawling to clench their thirst. Why do you think the sight of Brock Lesnar impregnated every member of the crowd at Raw? If you went to Raw, Darth, you would've come back glowing. You know how many WrestleMania's have had a mindless, self indulging high spot fest promoted as the main event? NONE!!!!!!!

Not saying they should be gone completely but other then a few the big guys are not over anywhere near as much as they used to be.

Back in the day the likes of Hulk Hogan, Diesel, Andre, Hercules guys like them were over with the crowd, now people want their CM Punks, their Jeff Hardys, RVDs, AJ Styles, Kurt Angle, Eddie Guerro, Chris Benoit, Daniel Brian.

These days the only big guys legit big guys who are over

John Cena ( I classify him as a big guy), Brock Lesnar, Kane, Big Show, Undertaker, Sheamus and Big Show.

And I was at Raw I marked like there was no tomorrow when Lesnar came out, I love the big guys I don't mind high flying but sometimes it becomes overkill.

Dude, you listed 7 big guys that are over. Surely that shows that big guys are necessary. Even if we take Cena out of that list (I dont think he should be classified as a big guy) then we can add Mark Henry who you forgot and its still 7. The we have Ryback and Tensai ready to come through too. That will be 8 or 9 big guys who are over. Plus you can add some TNA guys such as Morgan, Joe and Abyss. We now have a huge list of big guys that the crowds respond to.

so we can just put Mark Henry in as one of the Big Show listings. Either way, its very strange to say nobody wants big guys any more and then immediately rattle off a list of big guys that are definitely over with the fans.
