Default Chris Jericho Explains Why Ryback Should Beat CM Punk

    Source: WrestleView.com

Former WWE star Chris Jericho made an appearance on the "Busted Open" satellite radio show to discuss Sunday's WWE Championship match between CM Punk and Ryback. Jericho talks about why he feels Ryback should go over Punk this Sunday.

"I don't know anything and I don't work for the WWE. I haven't talked to Vince in about a month. But I personally think and this is something that obviously Busted Open Radio has very hardcore wrestling fans who are listening as we all are. The number one thing people bitch about is that there is nothing new and it's the same old same old with John Cena. This is the chance to create a new guy. This is the chance to make a new star instantly, and I know tradition says you must build a star. There is no tradition in a case like this.

The comparisons are to Goldberg. Most of the fans in this day and age have no idea who Goldberg is and don't care. We do, but in the year 2012 Goldberg was over ten years ago. How did Goldberg get over? .... By beating everybody. There was no loss for Goldberg. As soon as he did lose, that's when things started going downhill for him. Ryback is not a normal guy. This is not a guy that we see that builds his way to the top and fans get behind him slowly but surely. You want to pick a new guy? Have him beat CM Punk this week. Who gives a sh** about Punk's title reign?

It means nothing. Here is a chance to take a guy who people are getting behind. If he beats Punk at Hell in A Cell and after three hundred and thirty seven days or whatever and Punk is finally beaten, people are going to start to take notice of this guy. Those who don't watch Raw are going to tune in to see what's going on. Ryback beats everybody. Ryback faces Rock at Royal Rumble. What happens if a couple of weeks before that something goes on with Ryback and Undertaker got involved in the Rock match? What if Rock wins the title and goes on to face Cena we expected and what if its Ryback vs Undertaker at Wrestlemania? What if Ryback beats Undertaker at Wrestlemania? You have a new star for the next ten years to headline pay-per views and main events."

Jericho makes a good point, they could do with a new star.

But I still think it's too soon, Ryback is unproven, it could be a huge pay off to give him the title but it could all lose momentum real soon and the WWE has a real habit these days of dropping the ball on a good thing.

I really expected Punk to lose the title soon only to win it back before RR just because I couldn't see the E letting him wear the title for over a year. But he pretty much has to face The Rock at the Rumble and it's too late for him to lose the belt just to win it back, this close to the rumble it would be too rushed. So I think the E are actually letting him hold the belt for over a year (roughly a year and 2 months) which is great for Punk as lack of maineventing aside to hold the belt for over a year is impressive and it makes his loss to the Rock even bigger. Should he lose the belt only to win it back just to drop it to the Rock a month or two later would make Punk losing the belt far less potent.

So I think Punk has to walk out champion, which is why they've really booked themselves into a corner on this one.

A Brock Lesnar appearance or even a Big Show interfearance don't forget he has worked for Heyman in the past and it could lead to a no contest and Ryback already has 1 of those under belt against Jack Swagger.

If it was a normal match you could just have Punk get dq'd or counted out, allowing him to remain champion while keeping Ryback's streak alive.

Since this is a cell match though it creates the problem, my suggestion would be to have Punk hit one of his high kicks at the exact same time Ryback hits his lariat after a very physical 30-40 minute match, both men are knocked out. You leave the possible re-match open while the finish doesn't hurt either of them the streak's still in tact and Punk still holds on to the title.

Because that's what you want to happen after paying 60 dollars.

As I mentioned in a previous thread, its a finish that fans will hate and the ones at the arena will crap on, but its the only way I can see them getting out of this without burying either man. You have to think long-term not short-term. If Punk loses the belt only to win it back, Rock's title win over him isn't going to mean as much as it would if he beat the man that held it for a year and two months, on the flip side a loss for Ryback now when he is connecting with the fans may very well destroy his career before it can even get started.

Because at this point, it matters how the Rock is being booked, especially with the WWE title (that isn't at all a glorified trinket which is more an indication of the current mood of Vince and not the person who is holding it or how far along they are with the fans and their careers). Or because WWE for the last decade hasn't been 95% short-term shock tactics and blundered opportunities with rising stars, and no way that would happen at this event.
