Wrestlers Who Lived Up to Their Nicknames

Jake "the Snake" Roberts - The great deceiver! Jake would spend long portions of his matches selling to his opponents (as a babyface). He (and the opponent) created the illusion that the snake was dead, that the more the opponent stomped, slammed, elbowed away at the the snake, it would have less a chance of getting back up. Then out of nowhere, BAM!, the DDT. Jake was biding his time, enduring punishment just so he could get close enough to his opponent to take that one deadly bite.

Jake was in no way a power house, Jake's stature, demeanor, move set, ring psychology was in the human form of a venomous snake; tall, mysterious, damp, skinny and the ultimate deception - defenseless!

I liked how Jake would slither into the ring (much like a snake would) and then curl up in the corner (by the ring post) and pause there for a moment.

Almost like a snake patiently sneaking on its prey and calmly waiting for the right moment to strike

Greg "THE HAMMER" Valentine, I loved his elbow drops and forearms, his stiff style, the way he'd methodically take his time breaking his opponents down - specifically the legs to set them up for the figure four leg lock.

Another wrestler of similar style was Ronnie Garvin. He was nicknamed the "Hands of Stone" before joining the WWF where he was called "Rugged".

^^ The game. he played it well with all the politics, brown nosing, marrying boss's daughter and more world championships reigns than anyone in this era and now he is running things officially. If that's not the game then what is? There is a reason why he is called "The GAME" Good enuff for ya?

Dynamite was certainly like a vicious pit-bull, whose bite was worse than his bark! At times he maybe would have been better off being kept on his dog leash.

Nope ,

But neither did Davey Boy . In fact a few others mentioned here haven't won the world title either . Jake Roberts didnt . Neither did Greg Valentine . There's a hell of a lot of guys who haven't won the big one . Dynamite Kid , title or no title , is one of the greatest wrestlers that ever lived . Guys like Chris Benoit and Dean Malenko would never had the matches they had if not been influenced by Tom Billington .

Another man who deserved his nick name was Ted DiBiase , another one who never won the big one . The Million Dollar Man gimmick was perfect for him . The way he would wave that cash about and treat Virgil and others like crap was some of the greatest heel heat ever . Christ , even old Santa Claus ( or Balls Mahoney at least ) had a price for the Million Dollar Man.

Andre the Giant certainly lived up to being the 8th wonder of the world.

Dwayne Johnson has certainly electrified

And Undertaker ironically lived up to being the deadman or the american badass.

Bobby "The Brain" Heenan, "The Mouth of the South" Jimmy Hart and "The Doctor of Style" Slick. No, they weren't wrestlers but they certainly lived up to their nicknames as managers. Jimmy Hart's gimmick was enhanced when he moved to the WWF an was handed the megaphone.

"The American Dream" Dusty Rhodes, the appeal of the nick name is that Rhodes didn't look the part of the Dream, but it symoblised that the 'Dream' was applicable to any American regardless of appearance. Rhodes spoke like a black preacher from the south, looked like common white man, wrestled with enthusiasm. Rhodes' move set prodominantly consisted of simple moves like the punches, bionic elbows, Rhodes put a lot of life into those moves which excited the crowds.

Ooooooh, swinging under the belt there Shock. I think the Canadian Crippler was a great nickname for Benoit, he was so intense and you could actually see the "Crippler Crossface" crippling someone the way Benoit did it. Benoit's in ring style really suited the name so I think it legit deserves a mention.

Going off what Indy said, Hitman was a great name but I think Bret just had it cause it sounded cool with his name. I don't see how he actually was a hitman, but hey in anyone wants to explain why he lived up to the name please do.

Jake The Snake is probably my favourite.

Macho Man was a good one, he had the muscle to pull it off, plus it's a fairly flamboyant name (macho, macho man, I want to be a macho man) and Savage had the flamboyant clothes and charisma to pull it off. OOOOOOOOOOH YEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Glamazon! Beth Pheonix has the build of an amazon with the glamorous look of a WWE diva, plus she backs up the name in the ring.

The insane luchador super crazy was just that.
Innavator of violence tommy dreamer very creative with foreign objects.
Jeff hardy "enigma" what the hell is his gimmick and character spose to be. Never got him specially when dumps buckets of paint on him self.

The problem with a lot of WWE wrestlers is that their names have no meaning, they don't instill fear, amazement, any kind of money value.

One Man Gang - 6'7, 400 pounds from Chicago, Illinois. A ferocious, charging behemoth who wrestled (and fought) to the end. Gang used his big body to batter and tire his opponents.
