Who was Hulk Hogan's better foe, Andre The Giant or Randy Savage?

Two guys in the form of Andre the Giant and Randy Savage, complete different end of the spectrum when it comes to wrestling, you have the greatest big man the world of wrestling has ever seen, and then on the opposite side you have a quick agile guy with tons of personality.

Now I’m picked Andre the Giant as Hulk Hogan’s best foe, like the old saying goes a great big man can always beat a great little man, and during Hogan’s feud with Macho man that statement was spot on I have never seen Macho man gain a pinfall victory over Hogan during his time in WWF, and time after time if the same results happens that the crowd will never believe that Macho man has the skill or ability to overcome the Hulkster. I think one of the most important fact is the standing of the relative opponent to Hogan at that time, now don’t get me wrong Savage was a main eventer probably more to do with Hogan help for example his first WWF title victory at Wrestlemania 4 was mainly due to the interference of Hogan, bottom line Savage rode Hogan’s coat-tail to become the top dog, and without Hogan assistance Savage’s WWF career kinda stalled in to free fall. Now Andre the Giant was a legend even before facing Hulk Hogan, he travelled the world making a name for himself, and building an amazing reputation for himself, a guy that had to be seen to be believed.

When thinking about who made the better opponent for you must factor in the fans, if they will part with their well-earned money to see two guy feud then you know you got something special. So that brings me to Wrestlemania 3 WWF Champion Hulk Hogan vs. Andre the Giant, the man claimed by WWF to have never been defeated, and you have to remember back then there wasn’t the internet site with the so called smarks who claim to know everything about wrestling to put that fact right and give it that truth element. However the wrestling fan bought into that statement, and over 93,000 fans bought tickets to see the event and at that time a world record for the largest attendance for an indoor sporting event.

That wasn’t an one off happening either because the rematch from the Wrestlemania showdown happened on NBC’s Main Event watched by an amazing 33 million people making it the most watched wrestling match in North American history, and no matter what my opponent says these figures don’t lie, Andre the Giant was the better foe because the feud earned big money for the WWF.
Most people only remember the Andre/Hogan feud from 1987 onwards, however that wasn’t the beginning of this feud amazingly it started 7 year previously back in 1980. A youthful Hogan taking on a prime Andre, and Andre had the advantage in that feud in that time period, and back then this feud made money, and not only in America but in Japan federations as well, because this wasn’t a feud that only captured the American market, this caught the global market as well.

When you look at a better opponent for Hogan you must remember the game that Hogan plays, and everyone knows that he’s a powerful guy, but having Hogan facing someone bigger, stronger and more than likely more powerful than Hogan, its bring doubt to the fans, and they pay to see if their hero can overcome the odds and defeat a true giant of this business. Hogan would naturally be the odds on favourite against Macho man , and therefore the desire to go and see that match would lessen, its simple really a fan would prefer to see a result he’s not 100% certain as in the weather Hogan can overcome the odd than seeing a result he 100% sure off as in Hogan defeating Randy Savage, bottom line if the fan who decide who is the better foe, and the fans have voted with hard cash and viewer figures with Andre the giant.
