Today's highlighted wrestler is Giant Baba
A legendary wrestler, and possibly even more legendary promoter, Giant Baba. Baba was one of two students of the Godfather of Puroresu, Rikidozan, alongside Antonio Inoki. When the time came, in 1972, Baba founded his own wrestling organization, All Japan Pro Wrestling. As a longtime member of the NWA, that gave the company many chances to bring in the NWA World Heavyweight Champion, which Baba won on a few occasions. Baba faced the likes of Jack Brisco, The Destroyer, and even the Nature Boy Ric Flair. Baba enjoyed a lengthy career, and when the twilight years were behind him, he conceded the top spot, and stood aside for the likes of Jumbo Tsuruta, Genichiro Tenryu, and others molded his company into the top wrestling company in Japan, and many would argue that they would become the best in the world as far as wrestling ability went. He also pioneered the King's Road style, which would be made famous by the likes of Kenta Kobashi, Toshiaki Kawada, and Mitsuharu Misawa. Baba would join in on commentary, noticable from his deep voice, until his death in 1999. Arguably, when Baba died, the company he built was buried right with him.
