    Default Wishing to be wrong

So it is approaching that time again, WrestleMania. When stories are bigger, superstars try harder and even the smarks seem less… smarky. I enjoy the WrestleMania season for one reason above everything else. Not just the hype going into it, not the incredible build from the Rumble through the Elimination chamber and to the event. The reason I love WrestleMania is because my favorite superstar in history, The Undertaker makes his yearly return and I have yet to see him disappoint.

About three months ago I was reading the news in the early morning, as I do and find the believed match card for WrestleMania, the match scheduled for Taker was a one on one with CM Punk, this seemed a bit of a step down from last year (being honest I think almost anything would be a step down).

I personally didn’t mind, I thought they had a nice feud back in 09, though I had always wondered why Punk was sent so far down the card. I did eventually learn the reason; apparently Taker had some backstage issue with Punk and thus ended getting him de-pushed, however by this point they had both moved onto better things since then, probably better than where they may have ended up if Punk stayed up top.

Now we skip to two weeks ago, again I was reading the news (pretty sure it was in the evening this time though) and I begin to see reports that Undertaker is still injured and may be missing WrestleMania this year. I was disappointed that I wouldn’t get to see him face Punk at arguably the biggest point in either man’s career.

Honestly I was thinking that Punk could actually break the streak. Seeing as Punk is young enough to benefit from the push that would come with breaking the streak and it would send him to pinnacle of WWE where the likes of Hulk Hogan, Steve Austin and few others have ever touched.

Now we skip to last week where I was reading a column which can be found here, http://www.lordsofpain.net/columns/d...ml#footnote-14

During it, the article mentioned something I didn’t know, About Shawn Michaels potentially faking an injury to avoid a match with Bret Hart at WrestleMania 13. What you are wondering is probably what the hell does any of this have to do with anything I have previously said, keep reading and find out.

A couple days ago this idea popped into my head, a lot of ideas pop into my head over the course of a day. However this one just kept in the pit of my stomach.

What if the Undertaker is faking an injury to avoid facing Punk?

Think about it. He had him de-pushed a few years ago, could he still harbor contempt towards Punk these days? Plus does he want his legacy potentially destroyed by the end of the streak, I know he said he doesn’t mind in interviews but no one wants their legacy to be blemished. So he could be thinking this sub-consciously.

Sure it could all just be in my head but until he actually makes his return this idea is going to be stuck in my head.

I guess tonight we find out if he is returning for WrestleMania. I hope it is not true; this is one of the few times I don’t care; in fact wishing I was wrong. I am hoping that once the night is over this is one of the lasting images.

CM Punk VS Taker at WrestleMania would no doubt be huge. Even though I don;'t like CM Punk, I will admit that at this point on the current roster, he would have a ton to gain from ending the Takers streak. I don't know what WWE Wants to do with CM Punk, i'm guessing they want him to be THE heel of the WWE, and that would definitely be a great way to give him that heel push. I am on the other side with Punk though as far as thinking he still has alot to prove. He is talented, I don't think anyone can say he's not, but, he hasn't done much to impress me in any way. I wouldn't say he doesn't have any talent in any area, he's great at what he does, I do think he could use some work, but, everyone can always be better. Whoever would be the one that would end the Takes streak would definitely have to be the guy that can carry the WWE, and honestly, I don't see CM Punk as that guy. I do see a ton of potential in him, but, I think at this point, he's an upper mid-carder at best.

I'm not in the WWE, so, I obviously wouldn't know anything about how Taker feels about CM Punk., I wouldn't see Taker as the kind of guy that would actually fake an injury to get out of a match though, regardless of who it is. I do agree that he did the right thing by wanting to see CM Punk pushed down. I don't know him, he's probably a really cool dude, but, with the way WWE pushes superstars, i'm thinking maybe Taker wanted to help [Punk by having him pushed down. I know that sounds dumb, but, think about it. No-one can say that Taker isn't a legend in the WWE, that he's not someone you should talk to about how you can be better in the ring and get over with the fans, I think Taker has a good understanding of it. Maybe he saw the potential in CM Punk, and didn't want to see him go down the John Cena toilet. Maybe he wanted to see WWE actually push him right instead of shoving him down our throats and smacking us in the face with him every chance they get.

I am curious what Taker does think about as far as his streak goes. I'm not positive, but, I thought I read somewhere on here once that Taker said he wouldn't mind ending the streak just as long as it's the right superstar. I think I also read that most superstars won't do it for whatever reason. Whether it be respect, or just not thinking they have the talent to hold a m match with Taker. I think I read somewhere Randy Orton was originally supposed to beat him at WreestleMania, but obviously didn't. At the time, yeah, he would have had a ton to gain, he would have been THE heel of the WWE. Now though, he wouldn't have much to gain from it. CM Punk would be a great choice, but, I still don't see him as the guy that can carry the company though.

CM Punk cheating to end Undertaker's streak would be the greatest thing ever. The amount of hatred he would garner would be something that must be seen.

Taker hand picks his opponent for wrestlemania from what i last herd, so i doubt he is fakeing a injury.
