It also didn't help that it was near impossible to watch it in the UK considering we were hosting.

I'm actually legitimately pissed of with that, because that will also mean many country's schools will stop teaching wrestling at schools so there will be less fighters all over the world.
Sure UFC will keep it going at the moment but what if someone has a natural talent for wrestling and they don't want to get punched in the face repeatedly for a living, how are they going to know they are good enough to make it?


Good bye people like Kurt Angle, Brock Lesnar, Shelton Benjamin, Ken Shamrock and most importantly Bruno Sammartino.

Only way this is a good idea is if it's to make room for pro-wrestling at the olympics, get some promos and chair shots in there. Make the olympics more exciting.

That's just plain dumb. I don't even carea about it, and even I say that's a stupid idea. Wrestling is an actual sport. Is it the most popular? I don't think so, is it a sport? Duh! All this is going to do is hurt the sport of wrestling. I'm just curious how it's NOT a sport. Let's think....... you have to be in good shape......... it actually takes concentration......... it's not something you master overnight........ you have to think faster than your opponent........ it takes actual talent......... nope. Not seeing how it's not a sport yet. What's next? Playing Pokemon will become a sport!?

Well we're both wrestling fans, makes sense we'd both like contact sports. I can't stand gymnastics though, my sister used to do it so I got dragged to these awful competitions. It's like they know everyone there is there just to supports their kid so they make it as boring as possible. Every competition about 10-15 minutes of watching these kids march around to some awful trumpet music from crappy speakers, I was ready to kill myself before the competition even started. So yeah I can see why seeing people flipping around and stuff may be fun but I just can't stand Gymnastics.

Anyway, back on topic, I think I know why they may have removed wrestling and this is just a theory. It's really only the Americans that are into it. Take racing, pretty much every school in the world covers this in PE. Then there's boxing, not covered at school but more or less equally popular around the world. But then you have wrestling, I know here in the UK you can get wrestling lessons however it's not taught at school. I imagine there's a league but and competitions bit like gymnastics, but it's not taught at schools and it's not exactly popular. Meanwhile in America you can learn it in high-school, represent your school in competitions, and it's basically more popular.

That's why I think it's been removed from the olympics. It may have been an original event but these days, the only country still taking the sport seriously as a whole is the U.S so perhaps they see wrestling as a mainly American sport and therefore shouldn't be in the world olympics.

Don't get me wrong I'm against this, like I said other countries have amateur wrestling. My point is amateur wrestling is popular throughout America, most other countries it's not as big. Again look at boxing, Britain and America have different Boxing organisations but UFC aside, Boxing is equally important in each country.

That's my theory anyway. Maybe it's just most people imagine WWE when they think wrestling, but then that excuse is even worse. It's not like anyone tunes into the olympics to see Hulk Hogan slam Andre or something. I mean just watch an amateur match and it's clear that it's a legit sport.

I don't like the decision but, honestly, I can see where it comes from. People just aren't interested in amateur wrestling the way they used to be.

Perhaps this is an opening for MMA to some how find it's way into the Olympics. If that happened, I'd be willing to bet that the Games would see a major popularity boost.
