Default Hulk Hogan Criticizes Bret Hart For Working For Less Money

    Source: WrestleView.com

Fighting Spirit Magazine is featuring a quote from a new interview with TNA Impact Wrestling's Hulk Hogan where he talks about Bret Hart's run as WWF/WWE Champion and why things changed during Hart's run as champion in the company.

"The main-event guy made the most money when he had the belt. When I was the (WWF) champion, I made the most money. It was an old rule that Vince (McMahon) Sr. had that, thank god, was passed on for quite a while. That changed when Bret Hart became champion; he'd work for a lot less than anybody else, so it changed everybody's pay."

Hogan also called Hart "two-faced" in the interview adding, "The last time I saw [Bret], he was flying around in my Learjet with me, and playing with my kids in the pool. Then, all of a sudden, we're not cool."

Bret Hart should've respected the tradition.

So you mean because he decided the company meant more than him he should be damned?

I think it's only fair that the World Champion should get paid the most . I also agree that World Championship matches should be the very last match on the card, regardless of the publicity surrounding any other match or athlete that same night . It's tradition . But who cares about that anymore right ?

The whole company was built around Hogan from 1984-92 so of course Hogan would command the highest salary.
When he vacated the spotlight after WM8... there were a half dozen wrestlers all probably on an even pegging: Savage, Flair, Bret, Taker, Warrior.
(though Bret emerged as the top guy... there was less of a gap between him and teh rest as there was with Hogan and the rest)

Bret may not have earned what Hogan did (but who did?) .... though he was still one of the highest earners in the WWE from 1992-95 (I believe he was making the same money as Taker) ... and of course signed the contract in 1996 that doubled his salary over what Shawn Michaels was earning.
So what Hogan says is not entirely true.

Hogan is a master manipulater when it comes to money. He even treated his Hall of Fame induction as a business deal... only agreeing once the money he demanded was met

I don't think Hogan should be giving out financial advice.

Can anyone imagine Brock getting less than Alberto?

I guess both sides have a good argument. From a financial standpoint, yeah, Bret Hart was dumb for working for less money because he was the World Champion (and yes, the World Champion should be paid the most, except maybe the same as the WWE Champion now), but, from a professional standpoint, you can't hate on Bret for being about the company than the money. Really, how can you say with a straight face, "HAHAHAHAHHA! You love what you do! Hahahahahahaha! Look at me, I'm Bret Hart! I'm honored to be able to have the talent for this! I'm Bret Hart "? You got respect that he actually loved what he did, and wasn't all about the money.

If people recall.... when WCW first trid to lure Bret in 1996, Bret turned down WCW and accepted the lower offer that Vince gave him. That was an act of loyalty.
It was Vince who reneged on the deal that saw Bret eventually join WCW.
