WWE® INVITES GLENN BECK TO GET RAW

STAMFORD, Conn., February 22, 2013 – WWE has extended an invitation to talk show host and political commentator, Glenn Beck to appear live this Monday on Raw, in response to a segment that aired on TheBlaze TV yesterday. In the segment, Beck references WWE as “stupid wrestling people,” when criticizing a recent WWE storyline involving WWE characters Heavyweight Champion Alberto Del Rio®, Jack Swagger® and Zeb Colter®. WWE is giving Beck the opportunity to address our 14 million weekly viewers and our global fan base, as he believes we are offending our “conservative” fans with this storyline.

Similar to other television shows and feature films, WWE is in the entertainment business, creating fictional characters that serve as protagonists or antagonists. To create compelling and relevant content for our audience, it is important to incorporate current events into our storylines. WWE is creating a rivalry centered on a topical subject that has varying points of view. This storyline was developed to build the Mexican American character Del Rio into a hero given WWE’s large Latino base, which represents 20 percent of our audience.

This is cowardly of the WWE because they're looking to someone else to vilify, they're trying to make out like they're coming to the WWE fans' rescue for Glen's comments, and the WWE just devalued the 'promo' status to 'cheap skit' status by breaking character immediately after the promo. This is disgusting for so many reasons; to do it so blatantly to show Glenn Beck that Jack Swagger and Zeb Colter are just characters is an insult to the great villains who went through worse, who feared for their lives to protect wrestling - Blassie, Piper, Slaughter, the Freebirds, and I believe it's gutless of the WWE to try and make it about the fans and steer the heat away from Swagger and Colter towards Glenn Beck. I'm sure the fans can stick up for themselves. It's almost Osama'esque for WWE to manipulate the fans this way and direct them at another target.

WWE issued the following statement today.

Glenn Beck has declined WWE’s invitation to address our fans live tonight on Raw, in response to a segment that aired on TheBlaze last week where Beck referenced WWE as "stupid wrestling people."

Instead, WWE is sending a video crew to Beck’s studios to get comment from the talk show host and political commentator.

Tune-in to Monday Night Raw tonight at 8/7C on USA Network to see if Beck responds.

Here it is. Beck fails to get into a one on one debate again, which he has done a lot during his career.

I don't see why so many people criticized CM Punk for calling out Chris Brown, this is just as if not more shameful cry for publicity

No more shameful than Beck going on the attack to begin with. If Glenn wasn't willing to enter into a dialogue, he should have kept his mouth shut. And just for the record, I listen to Glenn Beck.

and if WWE went after every celebrity that badmouthed them, they'd be alienating themselves from a large chunk of hollywood and music.
