Default Former WWF Star Reduced to Selling Merchandise in a New York Subway Station

    Source: Gerweck.net

According to an article from DeadSpin.com former WWE & WCW Superstar Virgil has taken to selling his merchandise from New York’s second busiest Subway Station; Grand Central. One commuter posted a picture of Virgil on his Twitter Account, which can be seen below, and the writer of the article commented that Virgil was originally asking 20 dollars for signed photos, but was haggled down to 5 dollars.

Situations like this shouldn’t be made light of, it just reiterates the darker side of professional wrestling, a world where not everyone lives the lavish lifestyle that it sometimes portrays.

That is real sad. It's a shame this guy didn't save his money well. My guess is he had trouble moving on from fame, I remember in an interview The Godfather said that Virgil stole a WCW job from him by doing it for less money just because he was desperate to get back on TV. Then there's the famous autograph signing picture.

Virgil was never that great a wrestler, maybe he should have made the money he could and moved on.

    Very sad .

To think this guy was in a major feud , which led to a huge Wrestlemania match , against Ted DiBiase and that he was even involved in the NWO , one of the greatest wrestling storylines of all time , and now he's left with nothing .

Shock you mentioned that the pic from Twitter can be seen here on this thread but I can't seem to find it .

I'm sorry to see stuff like this happen, but with Virgil it doesn't surprise me. I met him at the San Diego Comic-Con a couple of years ago. I was walking around the "lesser" celebrity booths and saw him in his booth all by himself. I thought that it'd be a nice opportunity to get to meet him and talk with him, but when I said hi he ignored me almost completely, which is hard to do to a guy in a Nacho Libre costume. I think that if he had a better attitude about things (i.e. life) he might not be in this situation. It was sad to see him like that, but when you get to the point of ignoring those around you, you tend to give off a negative message that closes a lot of potential doors.

I think it's partly because he saw himself as a huge star and let's face it, he never was. Sure he had a feud with Dibiase and was in the NWO, but he was never more than Dibiase's lacky and he was one of the most forgettable members of the NWO - I only realized he was in the NWO about two years ago. He should have accepted that his time in the spotlight was over and do his best in the indies but it wouldn't surprise me if like Dedhed he blew off potential employers with his attitude.

Funnily enough I still have a PWI (or is it Inside Wrestling?) magazine somewhere from 1991 where a reader wrote in and said a similar thing.
And this was ata time when Virgil was at the peak of his fame.
He said that Virgil was cold and said 'no autographs' .... the fan was angry and finished his letter with 'I'm so glad he lost to Repo Man!

To fact that Virgil was jobbing to Repo Man goes to show how low he was down the ladder. Aside from his big PPV wins against Dibiase (you wonder how it happened) ... Virgil was a jobber to the heel midcarders. Not complete jobber status on a Steve Lombardi scale.... but someone to make the midcard heels look good.

Can't say I feel for him. I too had a bad experiance with him back when he was "Soul Train Jones" in the old CWA/USWA out of Memphis. They came to my small hometown of Livingston, TN one time and he refused to sign an autograph for me unless I bought a picture. The thing was, I was standing there with a friggin picture in my hand that I had purchased at another time but he still wouldn't sign it! I don't really remember it as I was just a little kid at the time, but it really ticked my dad off.
