Default Who was the original ECW's greatest heel?

Who was the original ECW's greatest heel?

I say Raven. He was the definitive ECW heel in my opinion. Raven was loathed by the fans due to his henious actions against Tommy Dreamer and The Sandman (brainwashing Sandman's family for example), both brilliant feuds. He's one of the best promo guys ever and extremely underrated and underused. The Raven gimmick was unique and he gained so much heat from the fans. Close second would be the Dudleys who were absolutely hated by the ECW fans, they nearly started riots as they'd just insult the fans so much.

I'm not to sure about this but could RVD be considered as the greatest heel? I believe there was a time when he was pro-WWF, he showed up on Raw and wrestled there a couple of times. He, Sabu and Jerry Lawler attacked the roster. I mean if that didn't make him a huge heel then IDK what would've.

Dudleys and Raven otherwise take it for me. Dudleys because of their riot starting insults. People boo'd the hell out of them. I got a copy of Bearly Legal, I have trouble hearing what D-Von says over the crowd. With Raven...well, MF already pointed out why.

yeah i saw that it was pretty funny though what they would say.

D-Von - "number one. shut the **** up!"

Joey Styles - "Nice to see you too, D-Von."

My vote would be for Shane Douglas.

What he did to that Pitbull with the broken neck was really shocking!

I really enjoyed Raven's cerebral approach to wrestling. He's one of the best characters and promo guys I've ever seen. Like MF said, his feuds with Dreamer and Sandman are the stuff of legends. But he's not my pick.

I'll grudgingly give Douglas props. He had to have been a great heel since I legit hated him. But again, he's not my pick.

Lawler's surprise appearance at the ECW Arena was one of my favorite moments in ECW history. He got insane amounts of heat. But again, he's not my pick.

I'm going with the Dudley Boyz. The amount of heat they got on a regular basis was crazy. People can say it was 'cheap heat' all they want, but they came close to starting riots on many occasions.

I had the pleasure of seeing the Dudleyz live at the ECW Arena a few times. The crowd was always hostile towards them, but one night in particular stands out. It was around the time they were rumored to be going to WWF. The Duds came out to a ridiculous heel reaction. You might think the Duds would try to defuse the situation. They didn't. They were far too good for that. They proceeded to cut their usual promo on the crowd but with extra venom that night. A few people tried jumping the rails and were handled accordingly by the always vigilante Atlas Security. My buddies and I were convinced their was going to be a full scale riot that night. It was awesome! It's still one of my most memorable live wrestling moments.

To tell you how much that crowd hated the Dudleyz that night, when the Impact Players came out they got a HUGE face pop. Yes, Justin Credible got a huge face ovation!

No way it was Raven, He was a good heel but no where in the league of 'The Franchise'.

He was so god damn controversial it was amazing. Whatever he did created Chaos one way or another. Weather it was the Lesbian Storyline, The Pit bull attack or whatever it all created Hell.

The uniqueness that was ECW make it a non heel, non face company in the way we know it to be. Those who wrestled in ECW were Feels or Faces based on you being liked or disliked; more importantly, if you were respected!

The prototypica face, Tommy Dreamer, was HATED to no end. he was to cute, to clean, to, goody toeshoes for the ECW crowd. It took a caning from Sandman to prove to the fans that under his boy band, perfect haired good looks was indeed a hardcore wrestler.

In the beginning of ECW, it was hard to be a heel jsut to be a heel, but one man stepped up and used his anger and hatred to WCW and some of its stars to break out of the typical role that in ECW and became a Heel, not for the lack of respect or for just not liking him, but because he was a heel's heel! That man was Shane Douglas.

At the end of the original 3 way dance, A legit emotional Terry Funk breaks kayfabe directly to talk to the fans, to praise the guys in the back, and to even pay tribute to the guys in the ring who helped Funk get through an hour long match. Shane Douglas breaks in and goes off on Funk, the fans, and everyone else. While I do not think Shane cut great promo's all the time, this promo was indeed a promo to be remembered, and hailed, as one of the greatest of all times. Ranking along the lines of the Cactus jacks anti hardcore hardcore promo's, the Dusty son of a plumber/kings and queens promos, Arn's 4 horsemen initiation promo, etc.

This promo, along with the arrogent way he carried himself propelled The Franchise to the forefront of ECW and gave the legendary(now a face) Terry Funk, a legit, believeable, star heel to face.

I do believe the Dudley's took it a step further, but without having Shane to prove a heel and face can be made in a place like ECW, they would not have been as over as they were.

I agree that it's Douglas because of this: he was the one of the first guys to have real success with the the Shoot character. Shane Douglas and Brian Pillman were the foundation of the edgy, grungy, hardcore, shoot characters. Without Shane ECW may never have had the courage to step forward with similar sketchy characters like Steve Austin, RVD, Sandman, Raven, etc.

    Horsemen REPPED.

But I'll admit that The Dudley's were amazing. The amount of heat they were able to draw so quickly and carry with them ranks them easily in my Top 10 Heels.

Bubba Ray Dudley and D-Von Dudley bar none, the insults they said to the crowd made them the ultimate original ECW Heels IMO. You don't see heels like that anymore...

I'd have to go with Raven. He set the bar very high. He was a heel who'd do anything to get by. Dismantle a man's family and make the man's son betray his own father Raven did that with the Sandman. Raven made the idea before it became the norm to do a crucifixion angle. This skit had to be canceled in an action that could have changed the very history of pro wrestling. Kurt Angle could have been an ECW original or atleast become a fulltime pro wrestler years before his actual debut.

Raven beat a man for over three years before the so called heart and soul could defeat the arch nemesis.
Raven was the ultimate heel in ECW.
The only thing that comes close is Shane Douglas in sheer terms of heel importance.
Douglas threw away the NWA world title to form ECW. If this isn't a pure heat getter I have no idea what is.

Raven no doubt. His storylines with Dreamer and Sandman speak for themselves. Those storylines were GOLD.

Shane Douglas really irritated the lights out of conservative fans of the NWA when he threw the belt.

I liked his heel work in ECW because it was cocky to the core. If you follow the storylines by heart and ignore that it is a storyline, he would really get into your nerve.

It really has to be Raven I mean he was so strong a heel that he was able to feud with everyone else in ECW at the same time! Think about it he feuded with Public Enemy, Tommy Dreamer, Sandman, the Franchise, and the Pitbulls all at the same time. Two years he was the top guy, great vignettes, promos, matches, and this all while he was in and out of rehab. Sure you can say the Franchise but he was always a fan favorite. Because he was ECW when he talked you were in total awe, and no matter what despicable acts he committed the crowd cheered him. So he didn't get heat. And those of you that said the Dudley's? Did you even watch ECW? They never had a run at the top, there eight tag-title reigns only lasted about two months total, and Joel Gertner got all the mic time. Yes they would rise up and go on to be the twenty something world tag-team champions but in ECW they were just one of those teams that was just there.

Yes, I watched ECW, and your statement is one of the most ridculously wrong statements I have ever read. The Dudleys may not have been at the top of the card, fighting for the Heavyweight title, but the fact is that they consistently drew the biggest heat of the night. By definition this makes them top heels.

Their over-ness meant that Heyman repeatedly had to throw two singles guys together to feud them. People bought tickets to the shows purely to abuse them, and you only have to listen to the crowd in their final ECW match to realise that they were way, way more than "just one of those teams that was just there".

Vickie Guerrero didnt win the World Title but you can argue that she was one of the top heels in WWE during her time, so having a run at the top is irrelevant.

Best heel in the original ECW was Sandman before he turned face. The whole blind angle was fantastic. When he pulled off the bandages and beat the crap out of Tommy Dreamer....that was intense.

In second I would put Shane Douglas

I'm starting to wonder if you ever watched ECW. The Franchise was booed out of the building the vast majority of the time! The Dudleys may not have had long title reigns, but they main evented tons of shows. Why? For one thing, because they were the most over heel act the company ever had. The other reason is even more simple.... Because nobody could follow them! They'd work the crowd into such a frenzy that even the ECW faithful would be spent by the end of their matches.

From what I saw of ECW, Raven was the biggest heel, I was also intimidated by the Dudley Boyz.

Raven also is the only who truly offended the hardcore ECW crowd...on the rise and fall dvd...where he crucifies sandman to a cross, Raven had to come back at the end of the show and apologize to the crowd
